The A1, A2 & B1 holds a special place in our hearts in the history of the organisation. We can boast a 100% pass rate, during the pandemic five students received distinctions.

This credit belongs to the students who have worked hard to achieve this milestone and to the dedicated teaching team.

Success is achieved by those who follow our strict criteria of:

The A1 and A2 Visa extensions may undergo some changes by the government department. When this occurs we will of course inform you of the changes.

A1/A2/B1/B2 Speaking & Listening

Those requiring further or indefinite leave to remain.

A1 A2 B1 B2

Those requiring Further Leave to Remain must meet the following criteria:

• Family life as a partner of a settled person (Spouse/Partner)

• Family life as a parent (Parent of a dependant)

• This is the current A1 English language requirement.

You will also need to pass the follow exams:

A1 Speaking and listening
• GESE Grade 2
• Representative of an Overseas Business visa

A2 Speaking and listening
• GESE Grade 2

Those requiring Further Leave to Remain (visa extension) must meet the following criteria:
• Family life as a partner of a settled person (Spouse/Partner)
• Family life as a parent (Parent of a dependant)

You will also need to pass the follow exam:

A2 English language SELT which is required for family route Leave to Remain applications after 2.5 years in the UK.

Those requiring Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or Settled/ Permanent Requirement must pass the following exam:

B1 Speaking and listening

• B1 British Citizenship (Naturalisation) Speaking and listening GESE Grade 5

•Tier 2 (General) visa GESE Grade 5

Further Leave to Remain

The duration of the course is approximately 12 weeks with 24 hours of classroom based teaching guided learning hours.
The course entails looking at the student’s ability to;

(1) Listen and respond to pass and present phrases
(2) Speak to communicate
(3) English in discussion
(4) An understanding of numbers

Further leave to remain

The Entry 3/B1 course is part of the citizenship course; the duration of the course is approximately 12 weeks with 24 hours of classroom based teaching guided learning hours.

The speaking and listening tests are conducted by a member of our teaching & volunteer’s staff; learners for some tasks may be tested in pairs.

The course entails looking at the student’s ability to;

(5) Listen and respond to turn of phrases
(6) Speak to communicate
(7) English in discussion

Course Details B1

For the TRINITY ESOL B1 Skills for Life qualification students must meet the following criteria:

• be aged 16 and above
• be able to read and write.
• UKVI Requirements – if English is not your first language, you must take the course in ESOL at Entry level 3- or pass an English language test like IELTS
at B1 level.

Assessment Details

Assessment for ESOL/B1 course for British citizenship or ILR will be undertaken by all students’ and progress will be monitored throughout the duration of the course.

When a student is ready to achieve the exam qualification, advice will be given.

Sitting an exam will cost Trinity £150.00; certificates will be included in the exam
fees.

Course Details B2

Trinity GESE B2 Speaking and Listening Examination Format Overview

The examination lasts approximately 15 minutes and consists of three assessed sections.

Candidate-Led Topic Discussion (up to five minutes)

In the first section, topics must be prepared and presented in advance.

A subject of personal interest must be selected and the discussion initiated with the examiner. Mind maps or lexical posters to organise ideas may be used.

During this section, you are expected to:

Present information clearly and in a structured manner.

Express personal opinions effectively.

Explain and justify your ideas using supporting reasons.

Provide extended and elaborated responses.

Respond to follow-up questions confidently and coherently.

Interactive Tasks (up to four minutes)

In this section, the examiner presents a real-life scenario. You are expected to lead the interaction by asking questions, gathering information, making relevant comments, and encouraging further discussion.

Conversation Phase (up to five minutes)

The final section consists of an unscripted conversation.

The examiner selects two discussion topics and assesses ability to exchange ideas, explain opinions, and sustain the conversation. Potential topics for discussion include:

Examiner Expectations

To achieve the B2 level, you are expected to discuss abstract topics confidently, explain and defend your opinions, compare ideas, and present multiple viewpoints. You should also make suggestions, develop hypotheses, and paraphrase when necessary. It is essential to respond to feedback, ask relevant questions, answer spontaneous questions naturally, and address requests for clarification with confidence.

During the B2 examination, you should accurately use a range of grammatical structures, including conditional sentences, passive voice, relative clauses, reported speech, modal verbs, and complex sentence structures. Fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, and confidence are also important components of the assessment.

Preparation Strategies for the Trinity GESE B2 Speaking and Listening Exam.

Based on our experience, the most successful candidates prepare by developing authentic communication skills rather than memorising answers.

Effective preparation should include regular speaking practice to expand your vocabulary and improve pronunciation. Reading newspapers or books regularly will also help develop your vocabulary. Organising your ideas and practising interactive conversations are essential. Completing mock examinations and receiving professional feedback from an experienced practitioner are also crucial for success. Practising speaking naturally will help you build confidence before your exam.

In the LIFE IN THE UK section, add the information about Home Office changes to Indefinite Leave to Remain.

PROPOSED CHANGES TO LIFE IN THE UK

In October 2025, the government announced plans to update the test content. Although revisions are under consideration, no official details have been released.

It is anticipated that proposed changes may include a focus on British values such as democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, and tolerance. There may also be increased emphasis on modern civic knowledge, including residents’ rights and responsibilities, the functioning of institutions, and contemporary issues.

It is expected that the new content will place less emphasis on obscure historical dates and former monarchs.

Important: Until the government publishes an official new handbook on GOV.UK, it is strongly recommended that individuals study the current third edition materials provided. These resources have demonstrated high effectiveness for users.

Please note: Several individuals have reported unsuccessful outcomes after using online practice questions. Last semester, three individuals failed five, eight, and nineteen times, respectively. All these students subsequently registered, received course content and passed on their first attempt.

Registering Home Office Documents

For the TRINITY ESOL B1 Skills for Life qualification students must meet the following criteria:

Visa Extensions

We are working with CIS; they will register with the Home Office in the next few months. CIS have a small and highly regarded team with exceedingly high qualification. Under normal circumstances, they can guarantee that your application will be posted to the Home Office specification within one week of receipt of your application. Or, in an emergency, they can achieve this in a matter of hours if they have all the documents and fees pertaining to the application must be given at the same time. They can only proceed with an application once they have all the relevant information the Home Office requires.
