Exemptions From B1 & Life In The UK Exams
The B1 and life in the UK is required if you are seeking to acquire a British Passport.
Some people do not have to take both or any exams.
If you have a degree from the UK you do not have to sit the B1 or if you are from an English speaking country, see below:
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Australia
- The Bahamas
- Belize
- Canada
- Dominica
- Grenada
- Guyana
- Jamaica
- New Zealand
- Republic of Ireland (for citizenship only)
- St Kitts and Nevis
- St Lucia
- St Vincent and the Grenadines
- Trinidad and Tobago
- The United States of America
Anyone who is sixty-five or over do not have to sit any exams, they can apply for their passport immediately.
Notable exemptions are for those who have a medical condition which prevents them from taking any exam. People who have severe psychological problems who are unable to take any exam because of their psychological issues must obtain a detail report from a consultant, a psychiatrist or a general practitioner.
To be exempt you must: be suffering from a long-term illness or disability that severely restricts your mobility and ability to attend language classes; or have a mental impairment which means that you are unable to learn another language.
You may be eligible to petition for language exemption if: you have documented learning, speech, hearing, or other disabilities that significantly impact the ability to acquire a foreign language.
